Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Bling Fling?
Bling Fling is an Aberdeen charity event set up by a group of volunteers in 2009 to help raise funds primarily for Aberdeen Breast Cancer Research Projects at ARI and Archway, an Aberdeen restbite care service.  The event consists of two parts. Firstly, a 10K (6 mile) walk (sorry, due to limited space no running) along the old Deeside railway line to Cults and back. Followed by a Party in the Duthie Parks Winter Gardens.

The After Party is to celebrate life and friendship and hosts an evening of live entertainment, delicious canapés and sparkling pink fizz along with a fantastic array of beauty treatments and therapies for you to treat yourself to.

What charities will benefit from Bling Fling?
All monies raised will be equally split between three Aberdeen charities:

-
Breast Cancer Research led by Prof Heys at ARI

-
Archway, supports families with learning disabilities in Aberdeen and North-East

- Children's Cancer Research at Aberdeen Royal Children's Hospital

Can I register a group of friends as a Team?
Yes you can and this is a good way to ensure that you walk with your friends.  However, each team member must have a completed registration form, registration fee, and raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship. Please remember to write your team name on each registration form and return them together.

How much sponsorship do I have to raise?
We ask all entrants to raise a minimum of £50 in sponsorship, although there is absolutely no limit to how much you can raise for the Bling Fling. Every penny you make in sponsorship will boost these worthwhile causes.  Once you have been allocated a place at Bling Fling 2010 we will forward you details on how to set up your own sponsor page online which ensures you reach all your friends, family and colleagues.  And remember, if your company is in a Matched Giving Scheme, you could double your sponsorship by letting them know you are taking part in the Bling Fling.

What if I struggle to raise £50 in sponsorship?
As demand to take part is high, we do ask that you must raise the minimum £50 required.  However, this does not need to be via traditional sponsorship.  View our Fundraising Ideas for more ideas.

When will I hear that my application has been accepted?
Places are limited and so will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  So please ensure you post your application early to avoid disappointment.  As soon as we receive your signed and completed application, we will send you confirmation of your place.  Please note correspondence will be be via email where possible to minimise postage costs to the charities, bit don't worry if you don't have access to email we post to your home address.  If you do not hear within 10 working days of you posting your entry, please contact us.
